KENYA – KIRINYAGA
BARAGWI COOP. SOCIETY
Baragwi is a cooperative of producers who grow coffee at 1700-1800 mt. slm in the south of Mount Kenya. The rich volcanic soil that surrounds the volcano is ideal for growing coffee – especially the sweet, vibrant cultivars released by the Scott Laboratories in the sixties.
This lot is made of “peaberries”, coffee cherries that grow only one coffee bean instead of the usual two. The uniform size and shape of peaberries means that they roast exceptionally evenly, resulting in an intense cup of coffee with high flavour clarity.
They are also very rare, representing only the 5% of the worldwide coffee production. The cooperative has set up a standard of best-practices throughout all the processing steps, in order to maximise the quality in the cup.
Expect a very structured and layered coffee, bright and acidic, balanced by a spiced earthy sweetness. Hints of sweet tomato, herb-like flavours and red berries.
